NAM "Clown Map" For Friday

Hot off the presses, the "Clown Map" for Friday which shows forecast snowfall amounts.  You can see that the forecast from this model is between 1 and 2 inches for the DC metro.  The interesting (and somewhat sad, given the last two winters) is that this is actually an improvement over previous NAM runs.

Maybe we're headed in the right direction...

  1. So why is it called the "Clown Map?"

    1. Because of the multiple colors used to show snowfall totals. Looked to someone like clown makeup, I guess :)

    2. The NAM is the "North American Mesoscale" model which is particularly good a short range forecasting (48 hours or fewer from the event) and particularly bad at long range forecasting.
