Two storms this week. The first one goes by today and tonight bringing rain throughout the area. Just not any cold air to work with - even though we are still in below normal temperatures. It's not going to be a huge rain producer, but it should continue the melting process that has been going on for the past few days.
The second storm - currently forecast to arrive Wednesday-Thursday is a bit more interesting.
Right now, it looks like a storm will approach from the south and a low pressure area will form off the coast and move up into the Northeast. At this point, it looks like the magical phase will happen too far north for us (or Philly or probably even New York City) to get serious snow out of this storm. But it does seem to be a big storm for mid to upstate New York and places in northern New England where winter has been a dud so far.
For us, I think some snow arrives Wednesday afternoon - possibly starting as rain depending on how early it gets started - but changing to snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Amounts seem light - at this point an inch or two seems to be the agreement between the forecast models.
If it turns into anything bigger, I'll let everyone know.
All meteorological eyes (at least in the mid Atlantic) are on the time period between about March 3-5 where long range models have a big storm affecting our area. Much can change between now and then, but that seems to be our next (last?) best shot at a major snowstorm in the DC area.
